Celebrity Abandonment of Uber Following Doxxing Claim By Executive

Uber has been losing celebrity support en-masse, after senior vice president of business Emil Michael claimed he would be willing to pay “one million dollars” in a smear campaign against editor-in-chief of PandoDaily, Sarah Lacy.
Even if Uber continues surging ahead of other taxi services, it looks like most celebrities and journalists are fed up with the service. This means a lack of coverage of any major updates to the service from most agencies, and a lack of celebrities to help promote the service.

In the past, entertainers have worked with Uber to create humorous pieces, like Jimmy Kimmel driving an Uber cab in New York City. Uber needs this celebrity support to keep its service in the mainstream media’s eye.
Some celebrities have defended Uber’s decision to investigate journalists, like Ashton Kutcher, who claimed journalists should be probed in the same way as any celebrity. However, Kutcher also decided to distance himself from Uber in later tweets, claiming these were his own views.
Uber has also be called out for poor business practices against its major rival, Lyft. Uber reportedly booked over 5,000 cabs and cancelled at the last minute, causing mass delays on Lyft service. Uber also tried to poach Lyft drivers, by sending recruiters into the cabs and offered gifts like an iPhone.
Some have been asking for CEO Travis Kalanick’s resignation, following the issues happening inside his company. The critics believe replacing Kalanick with an older CEO could be useful, to cut down on back business practices that give Uber bad PR.
